The 16-year-old won 5 of 7 bouts in the preliminary round and was ranked 6th heading into the direct elimination rounds. Receiving a bye into the top 16, Whitehead went on to defeat fellow Canadian Laurie-Ann Lamothe from Montreal by a score of 15-10 and Erin Corcaran of Wales 15-9, before losing in the semi-finals to Elsie Llewellyn from Scotland.
