Congratulations to David Eliot who was given the Ontario Games Team Spirit award yesterday. David also won a gold medal in team épée for the third year in a row while Danielle Burghgraef won silver in team sabre.  In total, Cutting Edge athletes won 5 medals at this Ontario Games.

Four athletes from Cutting Edge Fencing have qualified for this year’s Ontario Summer Games, which will take place in Windsor from August 7-10. Danielle Burghgraef will enter this event ranked number 1 in women’s sabre, Michael Mussari is ranked 3rd in men’s épée, while David Eliot and Matthias Leuprecht are ranked 4th in men’s épée and sabre respectively. All four are expected to challenge for medals in their respective events. Another team member, Zaq Quinsey, is an alternate in the men’s épée event.

Athletes from Cutting Edge Fencing came up just short of a medal this past weekend at the 2014 Canadian National Fencing Championships in Toronto. Danielle Burghgraef finished 8th in both cadet and junior women’s sabre. Zaq Quinsey went undefeated until the quarterfinals of U-15 men’s épée and ended up in 5th place. Michael Mussari finished 7th in Junior men’s épée and also had a strong placing in cadet, finishing 10th after a 15-14 loss in the round of 16.

Athletes from Cutting Edye Fencing came home with 8 medals from the provincials in March. Leading the way was Danielle Burghgraef with her gold in cadet and bronze in Junior women’s sabre. A list of all of the medal-winning athletes can be found below.

Gold: Danielle Burghgraef – cadet women’s sabre, Bill Mason – veterans 60+ men’s sabre

Silver:  Kerr Hutchinson – senior men’s épée, Matthias Leuprecht – U15 men’s sabre, Zaq Quinsey – U15 men’s épée

Bronze: Michael Mussari – cadet men’s épée, Danielle Burghgraef – junior women’s sabre, Danielle and the RMC women in team women’s sabre
