Cutting Edge Fencing was established in Kingston Ontario in 2003 and offers fencing programs for all ages in the best equipped full time fencing facility in the region. The initial focus of the club was on the development of a comprehensive youth program for the Kingston area, and as a result Cutting Edge quickly became Kingston’s top fencing club. Cutting Edge is a community program of the Royal Military College of Canada Fencing Program.
We offer programs for all ages and stages of development from our Mini-Musketeers to Youth & Adult Learn to Fence to our Advanced Competitive athletes and everything in between. On the competitive stage, our athletes have enjoyed success at every level from provincial competitions to major international events. Four of our athletes have represented Canada at various World Championships and most recently, club member Leonora Mackinnon represented Canada at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, along with Head Coach David Howes.
RMC’s newly renovated historic “Old Gym” is dedicated to the sport of fencing. It is the best-equipped, most modern and largest full-time fencing salle in the region, and one of the top fencing facilities in the country. With 14 fencing pistes, a dedicated strength & conditioning training area, 2 video replay systems, and the most modern training equipment, Cutting Edge offers everything an athlete needs to be successful. There is even a viewing area on the second floor that overlooks the fencing area, so parents can sit back and watch their children, or relax & chat with other parents.
The coaching staff at Cutting Edge Fencing is the highest qualified and most experienced in the region, including two fully certified fencing masters and a number of assistant instructors. Our club is led by former senior national team coach David Howes, who was a member of the coaching staff at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, and Patricia Howes, Head Coach of the RMC varsity fencing program and former junior national team coach. We are dedicated to providing the best coaching for our fencers in a safe, friendly & fun environment.
Cutting Edge Fencing was also designated as a Regional Community Development Centre by the Ontario Fencing Association. As a result, we are happy to offer school outreach programs either at our facility or at your school. Learn more…
